Dreamforce 2026 delivered one of Salesforce’s boldest, most innovative visions yet: AIForce. Introduced as a new layer that makes Salesforce data, permissions, and business logic reachable from external software interfaces like Claude and Slack—Marc Benioff called AIForce the “most exciting thing I’ve ever seen for Salesforce”. The idea underneath AIForce is worth considering for every advancement leader as AI becomes more prominent: the lasting value of a CRM isn’t the screen you click through. It’s the trusted, governed data and business logic behind it.
This idea is big enough for organizations to be sure they are planning for. It’s also worth being honest about where most advancement organizations are today in their AI adoption.
Enterprise businesses are now showing real momentum with agents.
Salesforce put customer results front and center this year. The keynotes featured some significant AI outcomes from custom-built agents, especially in service and support, across a number of large commercial organizations. Salesforce also shared that its Agentforce Coworker reached 100,000 activated users in 35 days.
In contrast to this, Salesforce demonstrated an emphasis on their own packaged agents designed for specific jobs, such as inbound SDR, outbound prospecting, and support – rather than their previous build-your-own-agent mantra. This seemed to acknowledge that the fastest path to value is agents pre-built for a defined role, something particularly relevant for the nuanced work of advancement teams.
Most advancement organizations are in a different state of AI readiness.
In our conversations with advancement teams across higher education, healthcare, and large nonprofits, the picture looks different. Most organizations are:
- Still shaping their AI strategy and deciding which use cases matter most
- Putting governance, privacy, and compliance guardrails in place
- Working through data quality in constituent records built over decades
- Waiting on central IT to decide which AI tools are approved
Querying donor portfolios conversationally in Claude or Slack is a compelling vision. However, for most institutions, it’s a distant horizon, not a near-term project. This doesn’t mean that organizations should dismiss it, but rather start looking ahead to how it could impact investment and prioritization decisions now.
Five questions to bring into your strategy
- Are you investing in the right layer? If interfaces do become more fluid – your data model, relationship structures, and business rules may be the best places to deploy IT resources. Clean data will pay dividends far into the future of AI.
- How much should your team invest in UI? If users will increasingly reach CRM data from wherever they work, weigh custom page layouts and interface builds against improvements to data and process.
- Should you build your own agents? The move toward packaged, role-specific agents signals that production-grade agents are harder to build and maintain than many expected. Before you commit, assess your admin and developer capacity, your testing approach, and who owns the agent after launch.
- Is your governance built for advancement data? HIPAA for grateful patient programs, donor privacy, prospect research ethics… these all shape what boundaries advancement teams should consider around agents that aren’t always a design consideration in other industries.
- Where does human judgment stay essential? Major gifts are built on relationships. Decide where AI expands gift officer capacity, such as research, prep, and follow-up, and where people must stay in the lead.
The bottom line
Dreamforce 2026 offered a clear view of where enterprise software is heading. AIForce is a vision for CRM technology that will take shape over time. As it develops, advancement leaders can create a strategy that’s ready for it: strong data foundations, clear governance, defined use cases, and AI that makes their people more effective.
At Kindsight, we help advancement organizations turn that strategy into practice using dedicated enterprise fundraising software built on Salesforce.
